The Sunfish sailboat continues to enjoy prominence in sailing, especially for beginners. Many of our club members own and sail sunfish boats. This iconic sailboat is easy to sail and makes a great entryway into sailing and are prominent in our annual Learn to Sail Event. But the sunfish is also raced as a one design boat throughout the world. Racing is a great way to learn sailing skills.
In 2018 the Lincoln Sailing Club formed Sunfish Fleet #706 and we have had great success bringing new and seasoned sailors to sail Sunfish in our sailing club. We have grown participation from eight sailors in our first regatta (2017) to around twenty sailors more recently. From the start, our regattas continue to offer sunfish regattas to all skill levels skipper experience.
Beyond our Nebraska Sunfish Regatta, we have club racing each weekend throughout the season AND two additional regattas mid-July (Cornhusker State Games) and over Labor Day Weekend (Commodore’s Cup) where sunfish racers are scored in their own class. Ample opportunities exist to sharpen skills in sailing and racing throughout the season.
If you have interest in learning to sail a sunfish or improving sailing skills and racing skills, we can help you grow in sailing.
