What is a Snipe?
A Snipe is a 15'6', two person sailing dinghy designed for racing. Snipes are boats known as "one-designs"--a class of boats that are built to tight weight, shape and size specifications to help keep all the boats equally competitive. The idea with one-design racing is to keep the boats as equal as possible so the skill of the sailor is the determining factor in the race. Snipes are relatively inexpensive and easy to start sailing for beginners and continue to challenge seasoned competitors.
